Jaime Hayon, the young Spanish designer, was born in Madrid in 1974. He began his career in 1997, working in Benetton’s creative department. Within a few years, Hayon had opened his own Hayon Studio, concentrating on works, which overlap the boundaries between art and design. His designs include toys, furnishing accessories, coordinates exhibitions and interior projects.

Hayon is known as one of the hottest, cutting-edge designers to emerge in recent years. Not only has he been recognized by Wallpaper as one of the Ten Best New Designers in the World, but he has also won the Elle Decor International Design Award for the category “best bathroom.”

Recent collaborations include: Metalarte, Artquitect Edition, BD Barcelona, Swarovski, Pallucco, Piper Heidsieck, Camper and, since 2006, he has been artistic consultant to Lladrò.

During his long-term collaboration with Bisazza, the young designer has created many inventive and innovative designs.

On the occasion of the Milan Design Week 2007, Bisazza presented Pixel Ballet, a project designed by Jaime Hayon for Bisazza Home collection. With “The Pixel Ballet” the Spanish designer Jaime Hayon unconventionally experimented with mosaic through his own personal language. The use of mosaic with other materials such as ceramic, lacquered wood and marble resulted in mirrors with graphic inserts, vases of uncommon and voluptuous shapes, a table whose legs remind of the mechanic parts of an engine, and two cabinets.

For the Milan Design Week 2008, Hayon conceived JET SET, featuring a striking installation of mosaic which reveals his “playful” approach and his fun way of interpreting mosaic. A setting reminiscent of a hangar, totally atypical and chic, hosted a sophisticated “fantasy” airplane with a decidedly surreal shape, decorated with white gold mosaic tiles, leather inserts and featuring a neat lounge with padded white sofas. Completing the luxury jet look was a black and white striped floor in Bisazza glass mosaic tiles, with interesting reflections between light and shadow creating a movie-set atmosphere.

The London Design Festival 2009 will represent a further step for the collaboration of Bisazza with Jaime Hayon. Bisazza will be technical sponsor in “The Tournament,” the installation designed by Jaime Hayon. A chessboard of 160 square meters in black and white mosaic will be situated in Trafalgar Square to represent the historic context of the battle of Trafalgar in a personal and definitely imaginative key.

Bisazza’s involvement in this event confirms once again the reciprocal interest and the long-term relationship of the company with the Spanish designer who has signed installations, projects and decorative proposals for the Mosaic collection and Bisazza Home, an assortment of furniture and decorative accessories for home interiors.
